The Power of Ask

Here are a few thoughts I gathered from the Word and in prayer about the power of ASK. It is hard to do, but commanded again and again as Jesus’ way of receiving. This is difficult in the western culture, because we’re taught so much to be self reliant and self dependent, but God is looking for us to be fully dependent on him!

Seek for a request to be fulfilled / seek an answer / to confidently make a request or need known / desire / require / inquire / seek permission / demand / audibly press / insist / look for something / finding or looking for a specific wish to be granted

ASKING – Takes humility, need, dependency, trust, you have to “become as a child” (Matt. 18:3) / unable to do on our own – we need another

person’s help / makes us vulnerable- maybe rejected, if we are refused? /

Yet, Paul says, “Your strength, O Lord, is made perfect in my weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:9) (“Your ability is perfected in my inability”)

“ASK” – HOW?

Boldly – Heb. 4:16 – come boldly before the throne of grace)

Thanksgiving – Phil. 4:6-7 – with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God

Faith – James 1:5 – ask in faith, or we are double- minded / don’t waver / Mark 11:23-24 – we can move mountains when we ask in FAITH / Heb 11:6- without faith, we can’t please Him

Persistently – James 5:16 / Luke 18

Confidently – Rom. 4:17 / Heb. 10:23-35

Expectantly – Believe you HAVE received, and you will have those things you ask for.

JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER received healing – he threw himself at the feet of Jesus, and ASKED Him to come to his house.

CENTURION received healing for his servant, because he ASKED Jesus to heal him

FATHER received healing for his epileptic son, because he ASKED the disciples, who then brought him to Jesus to deliver him.

SYRO-PHOENICIAN WOMAN received deliverance for her demon possessed daughter, because she ASKED Jesus for deliverance

BARTIMAEUS received healing for his blind eyes,…. Jesus ASKED him – “tell me what you want me to do for you”…and he did

ISRAEL was told to ASK the Egyptians for their wealth, upon leaving Egypt, and they received it – plundering their captors and then being delivered.

Moses ASKED the Egyptians for their wealth- and they gave it

Moses ASKED Pharaoh to let the Israelites go… he finally did (with much persuasion!)

LUKE 18- the woman persisted in pounding – ASKING for her wish to be granted, and because she never gave up, it was granted her.

God calls this FAITH (persistence) Luke 18:1-8

“…yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.

And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will He delay long over them? I tell you, He will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Acts 3:12 – The crippled man received his healing at the gate beautiful because he ASEKD for something

I Chron. 4:10 – PRAYER OF JABEZ – Jabez received what he ASKED for….

Matt. 7:7 – KEEP ON ASKING, KEEP ON SEEKING, KEEP ON KNOCKING – present tense, continuous, persistent, relentless

You shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

2 Chronicles 1:7-12 – Solomon Prays for Wisdom

In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.”  God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.”

Psalms 2:8 – Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,

and the ends of the earth your possession.

to a nation that was not called by my name.

Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
